The Amplified translation refers to wisdom in this verse as “insight,” the ability to see inside, the ability to see beyond the physical. The best definition of wisdom I have come across is *”insight into reality.”* Reality is spiritual, not physical. What we experience in the physical is only but a shadow of the spiritual reality. For instance, if someone is called Alex, the real Alex is not the physical body we see, the real Alex is the spirit person we don’t see. That is why when someone dies we say they have left us yet we can see the body. The body is not the real person, the unseen spirit self is the real person. So when the spirit self leaves, the body is considered dead as the owner of the body, the spirit self, has left. So the unseen spirit person is the reality – is the real person, the body is just a shadow of the real person. This is how life is. Many are concerned with the the physical that we see, yet the physical is only a shadow. The spiritual is the reality. God instructs in 2 Corinthians 5:7 to walk by faith and not by sight. He wants us not to walk by the physical that we see, but to walk by faith which means to walk by the spiritual reality we don’t see because though unseen, the spiritual is the ultimate reality, the physical is just a shadow. Many believers are suffering because they live by what they see in the physical and ignore the spiritual which is the reality. What you are experiencing in your marriage, in your health, in your material needs – is only physical which is but a shadow. God wants you to live by the spiritual then you will change the physical. That’s why Paul was praying for every Christian to have “the spirit of wisdom” which is “the spirit of insight into reality.” The spirit that enables you to see beyond the physical into the spiritual which is the reality. This is the beginning of walking in wisdom. You have insight into mysteries as you function in the realm of the spirit. What goes on in the physical doesn’t move you as you live beyond the physical. You become a master of circumstances. This is the blessing of our divine life in Christ, glory to God.
